چکیده

Nobuchika Sakata Human Interface Laboratory Division of Systems Science and Applied Informatics Osaka University, Japan [email protected] Abstract In this research, we explore using pointing and drawing in a remote collaboration system. Our application allows a local user with a tablet to communicate with a remote expert on a desktop computer. We compared performance in four conditions: (1) Pointers on Still Image, (2) Pointers on Live Video, (3) Annotation on Still Image, and (4) Annotation on Live Video. We found that using drawing annotations would require fewer inputs on an expert side, and would require less cognitive load on the local worker side. In a follow-on study we compared the conditions (2) and (4) using a more complicated task. We found that pointing input requires good verbal communication to be effective and that drawing annotations need to be erased after completing each step of a task.

Electro-Optical Design of Imaging Payload for a Remote Sensing Satellite

Remote sensing using small spacecraft arising from multi-objective economic activity problems is getting more and more developed. These satellites require very accurate pointing to specific locations of interest, with high reliability and small latency. The space borne imaging systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given t...

Symmetric Model of Remote Collaborative Mixed Reality Using Tangible Replicas

Research into collaborative mixed reality (MR) or augmented reality has recently been active. Previous studies showed that MR was preferred for collocated collaboration while immersive virtual reality was preferred for remote collaboration. The main reason for this preference is that the physical object in remote space cannot be handled directly. However, MR using tangible objects is still attr...

A Collaborative Guidance Case Study

This paper reports on a collaborative guidance case study, which investigated the use of remote pointing and drawing technologies in a system designed for spatially focussed collaborative tasks. Four guidance technologies were available to the participants – pointing and drawing over video of the remote site and pointing and drawing into the remote workplace itself. The experimental task was de...

ISO 9241-9 evaluation of video game controllers

Fifteen participants completed a study comparing video game controllers for point-select tasks. We used a Fitts’ law task, as per ISO 9241-9, using the Nintendo Wii Remote for infrared pointing, the Nintendo Classic Controller for analogue stick pointing, and a standard mouse as a baseline condition. The mouse had the highest throughput at 3.78 bps. Both game controllers performed poorly by com...

MultiPoint: Comparing laser and manual pointing as remote input in large display interactions

We present MultiPoint, a set of perspective-based remote pointing techniques that allows users to perform bimanual and multi-finger remote manipulation of graphical objects on large displays. We conducted two empirical studies that compared remote pointing techniques performed using fingers and laser pointers, in single and multi-finger pointing interactions. We explored three types of manual s...
